Economic independence affects women empowerment. A woman is considered as economically empowered when she grows financially and is able to make financial decisions herself and act on them independently. Economic empowerment is an important aspect in women empowerment in India. 

But inequalities persist in this sphere as well. Generally, women receive lower daily or hourly wages than men in most industries that require physical labor like farming, construction sector etc. Providing fair and equal wages to women can improve their workspace participation and can positively impact the national economy. Certain things that indicate the economic independence of women include having their stable income source, property ownership, etc. 

Government’s Women Empowerment Scheme in India 

The Indian government brings out new campaigns and schemes aiming at women empowerment throughout the country every now and then. Since 2015, the “Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao” has become an anthem. This women empowerment program brings in generational awareness and improvement in efficiency of girl’s welfare services in India. Creating awareness on girl child education is a key part of this scheme.
