Why Women Empowerment in India Is Important

In many societies, women are still discriminated against due to their gender. They’re not given the same rights as their male counterparts. Women are paid less, expected to clean, cook and only look after the household. Women’s empowerment is truly the necessity today because not only does it enhance women’s self-esteem but is also good for the overall development of societies. 

Women empowerment in India is all about giving them rights equal to men -- political, social, educational, employment etc. Women are an integral part of society and should be free to choose their education, work, and other activities. In an empowered society, women are allowed to get higher education at par with men. They possess equal rights and have the right to vote and take part in political activities. 

Women empowerment in India is essential to motivate women, make them feel strong and allow them to do whatever they want to do. They can work outside their home and don’t have to rely on men. In fact, they can earn to support their household by making the most of their abilities. 

Also, empowerment plays a big role in reducing domestic violence. Empowered women aren’t ill-treated and incidents of emotional and physical abuse go down drastically.

Holistic Development of Society:

Women empowerment in India is really essential for the overall development of society. In the corporate world, women are playing various roles in the fields of engineering, medicine, aeronautics, law, and so forth. Besides participating in the world of technology, they’re also part of the defence forces as well as police. All these services are essential for the well being of society and community.

Unemployment problem:

Unemployment is common in developing societies. Almost half of global as well as India’s population comprises women. The unemployment of women & unequal opportunities in the place of work can be eliminated with women empowerment in India. To utilize the strength & potential of women, they must be given equal opportunities. 

The government has come up with schemes & campaigns aiming at empowering women across the country. For instance, ‘Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao’ has turned out to be an anthem since it was launched in 2015. The programme is targeted at awareness generation & enhancing the efficiency of welfare services for girls in India. Promoting girls’ education is the most important part of it. Some other well-known government schemes for girls and women are Support to Training and Employment Program for women (STEP), Mahila-e-haat, working women hostels, Sukanya Samriddhi Yojna, Mahila Shakti Kendra, etc. 

More and more women are now turning entrepreneurs, launching small businesses and even taking up farming at a larger level. The era of startups will also help in empowerment of women in India
